Chooses PureWave Quantum 6600 Base Stations for Superior Non-Line-of-Sight Performance
Mountain View, CA, July 12, 2011 - PureWave Networks Inc., a rapidly growing provider of compact 4G wireless base stations, today announced that AireArk, a division of South Arkansas Telephone Company (SATCO) has selected PureWave Quantum base stations for delivering Mobile WiMAX services to its customers. Currently serving approximately 15,000 business and residential customers in rural Arkansas. AireArk-SATCO has already launched the new service with local education and government customers. AireArk-SATCO ultimately intends the new network to cover much of its Southern Arkansas territory and to expand service to nearby towns beyond its territory.
"Rural telephone companies are facing daunting competitive challenges as well as a shift by their residential customer base to cellular service and away from traditional land lines. At AireArk-SATCO we have decided to face this challenge head-on, to offer new and exciting services to our customers and to take the battle to our competition," said David Wells, General Manger of AireArk-SATCO. "We are now rolling out an advanced Mobile WiMAX network to serve our rural communities. This is the same 4G wireless technology used by some of the biggest cellular operators in the country, and we are expanding beyond our traditional territory."
"We chose PureWave for the truly impressive coverage their base stations deliver," said Wells. "We've looked at most of the vendors out there but could find no equipment that delivered similar non-line-of-sight performance. At one point our technicians actually tested the wireless link from within a concrete vault located about half a mile from the base station and were still seeing broadband level service speeds. That pretty much sealed the deal for us. This is big for us."
One of the first customers to sign-up for the new broadband service is the Arkansas Law Enforcement Academy and Training Center, located in East Camden, Arkansas. Prior to signing up for the new service the police academy was served by a fractional frame relay service, delivering a total of 256Kbps for the entire facility. "Each user now gets 3 Mbps," said Ken Jones, Director of the Academy. "The new WiMAX service is changing the way we do business here at the academy. Not only is the academy staff seeing a dramatic improvement in productivity, but our cadets are now also able to sign up for broadband service during their twelve week training program."
"We are proud to have been chosen as AireArk-SATCO's 4G technology partner," said Don Meiners, PureWave's CEO. "SATCO's successful network roll-out shows that rural communities are hungry for wireless broadband services, and that the business case to deliver these services is solid."
