Delivers mobile services in Curacao and St. Maarten and plans further Caribbean expansion

Mountain View, October 18, 2011 – PureWave Networks, Inc. announced today that it has been selected by Scarlet B.V. as the Caribbean operator’s 4G infrastructure partner. With a total of 58 PureWave Quantum base stations already in operation in Curacao and St. Maarten, Scarlet’s network has been growing rapidly and network coverage and capacity will expand further in the coming months.

"PureWave Quantum base stations have been the right choice for our network,” said Eric E Stakland, CEO of Scarlet. “After our previous equipment vendor exited the market, we evaluated a range of other vendors and selected PureWave on the strength of their innovation, advanced technology and their ability to integrate seamlessly with the older equipment we had already deployed. Choosing PureWave allowed us to keep operating our older base stations as well as the ASN Gateway and the core network infrastructure we already had in operation. What’s more, we made no changes in our consumer devices and this migration was completely transparent to our customers, who now seamlessly roam between our older base stations and our newly deployed PureWave infrastructure. All they see is dramatically improved network speed and coverage. This was truly a smooth migration with no service interruption. Over time we are planning to swap out our older gear with additional PureWave base stations. The Purewave solution has a great price-to-performance ratio and provides Scarlet with a new growth engine to take us through the next level of growth.”

Scarlet’s rapidly growing network currently serves over 8,000 customers on the Caribbean islands of Curacao and St. Maarten, with plans to expand to Aruba in 2012. Customers can roam between islands, enjoy full mobile services and choose from a range of attractive devices.

“We are proud to be Scarlet’s vendor of choice,” said Don Meiners, PureWave’s CEO. “Many operators face difficult technical challenges and spiking customer churn when attempting to upgrade their networks to the latest 4G technology. As Scarlet’s network rollout demonstrates, PureWave’s ability to interoperate and successfully coexist with a wide range of WiMAX base stations, gateways and devices make network migration a much simpler and more cost effective proposition. This is one of many reasons that operators around the world have been switching to the PureWave Quantum platform and helps to explain why we have been rapidly gaining market share in this space.”
